The Evils of Politics...

For the past few months I’ve been a member of a, online community that is strictly for oneness Christians. While I enjoy the fellowship of those of like precious faith, I have to say that I fail to see the true sincerity of a small few that claim the title and attributes of what being a true “Christian” should be. On any given day, you’re sure to find a vast array of various topics that range in nature from one's favorite pastimes, restaurants, whimsical and politically-heated discussions. There is no shortage of those that only hear “their” one-sided views and fall short of the task of “reasoning together” as the bible so eloquently states.

While I’m am perfectly fine with a person choosing to express their point-of-view’s political or otherwise; I am at odds when we, as “Christians,” allow our political point-of-views an avenue to deny others the ability to cross over party lines and at the very least inhibit them from expressing the same.

Recently, I saw a discussion that peak my interest and I decided, as did others, to express how I saw and perceived things to be. Well, I interjected my comments on the community forum and was immediately attacked for my not-so-popular stand. Now, as I read some of the comments, it was clear that I was of the minority (no pun intended), and in my usual mode of operation, I defended my opposition.

To further clarify the topic of the discussion, the poster made references that God told her that Barack Obama was the Anti-Christ. Then, there were those that resorted to pick apart his NOT pledging allegiance/saluting the American Flag, wearing a lapel pin of the American Flag and that he was a Muslim (terrorist); with questionable relationships and background. If he is all of these things; surely he must also be racists!

Instantly, I failed to see the “godly” attributes display themselves as those who will quickly tell you that “they love the Lord and want lost souls to be saved.” I ask myself: “where are these loving people now?” I’ve heard of ugly politics’ before; on the other hand this was truly new territory for me! From one post to the other there were those who were quick to shell out insults to those that opposed their views, bash and speak evil of the political candidates, post erroneous information that anyone could Google, and then in their closing arguments relate all of it biblically to support their “cause” and personal convictions” or they just absolutely could not live with themselves!

On the contrary, as I read my bible, it clearly tells us, as Christians, that: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. (Proverbs 18:21)

What does that mean for those who profess Christianity? What does it mean when all I hear from them is name-calling, bickering, back and forth mindless chatter, and comments that border racial overtones?

To me, it raises the question that if the “Christians” are behaving this way; then why would I want entertain the thought of serving the same god their profession. Personally, the God I serve expects more from his servants.

I just thank my God that He is not like man! He is God alone and it is in Him I will place all of my trust!
